How to RSVP without joining, signing up or downloading an app
Updated · RSVPlinks
Yes, you can RSVP without joining anything: on RSVPlinks a guest opens the event link in any phone or computer browser, types their name, picks an answer and sends it, with no account, password, app or download.
Step by step
Open the link
Tap the link the host sent by text, email, group chat or social post, or scan the QR code on a printed invitation with your phone's camera. The event page opens in your browser.
Type your name
Your name is the only field every form has, so the host knows who replied.
Pick your answer
Choose yes or no (and maybe, if the host allows it). If the host asks how many are coming, enter your party size, split into adults and kids when the host wants that.
Fill in what the host asked for
Some hosts ask for an email so they can send updates, a phone number or a mailing address. Paid events can add the host's own questions, such as a meal choice. None of these creates an account.
Send it
Your reply reaches the host straight away and a confirmation appears on screen with Add to Calendar. There is nothing to install and no password to remember.
Do guests need an account to RSVP?
No. Guests reply on the event page itself, and the reply is stored with the host's event, not in an account. What a guest types depends on what the host turned on.
New events ask for an email by default, because it lets the host send updates. The host can make it optional or turn it off on any plan, free included. The two exceptions: an event that takes an RSVP fee, or one using invite tracking, always asks for an email. A phone number is off unless the host turns it on.
The form tells guests that their email and phone go to the hosts only, never to other guests. A public guest list is off by default, and when a host turns it on it shows names only.
- Always: name, and yes or no
- If the host allows it: maybe
- If the host asks: party size, with adults and kids
- If the host asks: email (on by default, optional or off on any plan), phone, mailing address
- Paid events only: the host's own questions
How do you change an RSVP without an account?
Right after you reply, the confirmation screen has a Change my RSVP button that reopens your answer as you sent it.
Later, or from another phone, start the form again and type the same email. The page sees you have already replied and offers to email you a link to change your reply. The link goes to the address on your reply, never to one typed in, and works for 3 days. Nobody else can change your reply by typing your email.
If you replied without an email, ask the host: they can edit any reply from their guest list.
What does the host need?
The host needs a free RSVPlinks account to publish the event, see replies and manage the guest list. You can start designing the page at /create without one; when you press Create you sign in with email or Google, and the draft is kept through the sign-in.
The free plan covers up to 20 RSVPs per event on up to 5 events at a time. Guests never need an account on any plan.
Why do sign-up walls cost replies?
Every step between the invitation and the answer is a place to stop. A guest asked to create an account has to choose a password, confirm an email or install an app before they can say yes, and many will mean to come back later and forget. Older relatives, busy parents and anyone on a borrowed phone are the most likely to drop off.
A wall also costs the host: the people who did not reply look the same as the people who are not coming, so you end up chasing answers one message at a time. A form that takes a name and a tap gets the answer while the guest is still looking at the invitation.
How do you send an RSVP link that needs no app?
Send the link the way you already talk to your guests. RSVPlinks sends no text messages itself, so the link comes from your own phone or inbox and guests know who it is from.
- Text or group chat: paste the link; most phones show a preview with the event's picture
- Email: put the link in your own email or under an email invitation's button
- Printed invitations and posters: download the free QR code; guests scan it with the camera
- Social posts and bios: paste the link where your guests already look
Which RSVP apps let guests reply without an app?
On RSVPlinks, guests reply in their browser with their name: no app, no sign-in and no ads on any event page, free or paid. Here is how our comparison table marks the other tools on browser-based replies with no app for guests.
The same table lists ads on the invite page for Evite (Premium only).
- Evite: yes
- Partiful: SMS verify required
- Punchbowl: yes
- Paperless Post: yes
- Eventbrite: yes
Frequently asked questions
- Can I RSVP without creating an account?
- Yes. On RSVPlinks you open the event link, type your name, choose yes or no, and send. There is no account, password or sign-up. The host may also ask for an email, party size or other details.
- Do I need to download an app to RSVP?
- No. The event page opens in the browser on any phone or computer, from a link or by scanning a QR code with the phone's camera. Nothing is installed.
- How do I change my RSVP if I don't have an account?
- Use Change my RSVP on the confirmation screen right after replying. Later, type the same email in the form and choose to get a link: it goes to the email on your reply and works for 3 days. Without an email on the reply, ask the host to change it.
- Will the host or other guests see my email and phone number?
- Only the hosts see them, and only if they asked for them. Other guests never see your email or phone; if the host shows a guest list on the page, it lists names only.
- Can I RSVP for my whole family in one reply?
- Yes, when the host asks for a party size. One reply covers everyone in your group, with adults and kids counted separately if the host wants that.
- Does the host need an account?
- Yes, a free one, to publish the event and see who replied. The free plan covers up to 20 RSVPs per event. Guests never need an account.
