Luma alternative: RSVPlinks vs Luma

A free event page and calendar platform with registration, ticketing, approval and guest messaging, used a lot for community and professional events. RSVPlinks is an event page and website builder where guests reply, register or buy tickets in their browser, free for up to 20 replies per event and a one-time $7–$39 above that. Choose Luma if you run recurring community or professional events, need more than 20 replies for free, or want text and WhatsApp reminders.

Luma's price: Free with unlimited events and guests, with a 5% platform fee on paid events plus Stripe's card fee. Luma Plus is $59 a month billed yearly and has no platform fee.1

Pros and cons

Where Luma does well

  • The free plan has no limit on events or guests per event.1
  • Blasts and reminders go out by email, SMS, push and WhatsApp.1
  • On a paid event needing approval, the card is held and charged only if you approve.2
  • Calendars guests can subscribe to, and a Discover page for events.3
  • Apple and Google Wallet passes for guests.4
  • Zapier and API access on Plus, Zoom attendance on the free plan.1

Limits Luma states

  • No seat maps.2
  • A custom event URL needs Plus, and an event can't sit on your own domain.5
  • On a refund, the host still covers the original card fee and the platform fee.6
  • The free plan sends up to 500 invites or newsletters a week.1

Where RSVPlinks does well

  • A website with sections, not only an event page, and your own domain.
  • Designed pages: layouts, page effects and animated intros, all free.
  • A party's other jobs on one link: sign-up sheets, date polls, group cards and gifts, party games, a seating chart.
  • Selling whole tables and sponsorships, with the fee including card processing.

Where RSVPlinks falls short

  • Tickets are new here, with far less history than platforms that have sold for years.
  • Card payments pay out to US bank accounts, in US dollars only.
  • Buyers can't pick a seat on a map: you sell tickets or whole tables, and seat people yourself.
  • Our fee is never refunded, on any path.
  • A first-time seller's money waits until 3 days after the event.
  • No Apple or Google Wallet passes: tickets are a QR in the email, on the web and in a PDF.

A cross means the vendor says it doesn't offer it, or for RSVPlinks that we don't. “Not found” means we looked through its public pricing and help pages and saw nothing either way. It may still exist. A number links to the source.

Our arithmetic from each platform's published rates for a one-ticket order, with Stripe's standard US 2.9% + 30¢ where a platform bills card processing separately. It leaves out tax, currency conversion, monthly plan costs and any custom pricing, and passing a fee to the buyer changes the base slightly. Partiful doesn't publish a rate, so it isn't here.
