How to add an RSVP link to a Canva invitation
Updated · RSVPlinks
The design is only half an invitation — replies still need somewhere to land and be counted. Make an RSVP link, attach it to a button or QR code on your Canva design, and every reply shows up on one guest list.
Step by step
Create the RSVP page first
You need the link before you can attach it. Open the event builder, add your title, date, time and location, pick a design, and publish. That gives you a shareable RSVP link and a matching QR code.
Copy the link and download the QR code
Open the event's share options on your dashboard. Copy the link for anything guests will tap on a screen, and download the QR code for anything you will print.
Link a button or line of text in Canva
In your Canva design, add a button shape or a line such as 'RSVP here'. Select it, open the More (•••) menu in the toolbar, choose Link, paste your RSVP link and press Enter. Text, shapes and images can all carry a link.
Add the QR code for printed copies
Upload the QR code image to Canva and place it on the design with a short label like 'Scan to RSVP'. Keep it at least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) square, dark on a light background, with clear space around it.
Export in a format that keeps the link
Download as a PDF, or publish the design as a Canva website, and the link stays clickable. A PNG or JPG is a flat picture — the button will look right but nothing happens when a guest taps it.
Test it the way a guest will open it
Send the invitation to yourself and tap the button on your phone. Scan the QR code from a printed proof, not from the screen. Two minutes here saves a reprint and a round of 'the link doesn't work' texts.
Which Canva formats keep the RSVP link clickable
This is the step that catches most hosts. Whether the link survives depends on how the design leaves Canva.
- PDF download — link stays clickable
- Canva website (a my.canva.site address) — link stays clickable
- Canva view-only share link or presentation — link stays clickable
- PNG or JPG image — link is lost; send the RSVP link as text beside the image
- MP4 or GIF — link is lost; put the link in the caption or message
- Printed card — no tapping at all, so use the QR code and print the link underneath
Sending the invitation as a picture
Most invitations travel as an image in a text or group chat, where a link inside the design cannot work. Send the picture, then send the RSVP link as its own message straight after — a link on its own line gets tapped far more than one buried in a paragraph.
On Instagram, add the link with the link sticker in a story or put it in your bio. On a Facebook event, paste it at the top of the description.
Make the RSVP page match your Canva design
Guests who tap through should land on a page that looks like the invitation they just saw. Download your Canva design as an image and upload it as the banner on your event page, then pick a colour palette and fonts close to the ones you used.
The details live on the RSVP page, so if the time or venue changes you edit one place and the same link and QR code show the update. The Canva file only needs changing if you printed the detail on the design itself.
On a Canva website or a wedding website
A Canva website works the same way as a single design: add a button, link it to your RSVP page, publish. Put the button near the top and repeat it at the bottom, so guests do not scroll past the only one.
The same approach works on any wedding website or site builder that lets you link a button. One link and one guest list also means guests who got a paper card, a text and the website all reply in the same place.
What it costs
The RSVP link and QR code are free for up to 20 RSVPs per event. Larger events are priced once per event, starting at $7 for 75 RSVPs, and a paid event can use a custom URL that is short enough to print under the QR code.
Guests never pay, sign up, or install anything. They do not need a Canva account either.
Frequently asked questions
- Can you add an RSVP to a Canva invitation?
- Yes. Create an RSVP link, then in Canva select a button or line of text, open the More menu, choose Link and paste it in. Download the design as a PDF or publish it as a Canva website so the link stays clickable. For printed invitations, add the RSVP QR code instead.
- Why is the RSVP link on my Canva invitation not clickable?
- It was most likely saved as a PNG or JPG. Image files are flat pictures and drop every link. Download the design as a PDF, share it as a Canva website, or send the RSVP link as a separate message next to the image.
- How do guests RSVP from a Canva website?
- Add a button to the Canva website and link it to your RSVP page. Guests tap it, see the event details, and reply Yes, No or Maybe in one tap. Their answers appear on your dashboard with a running headcount.
- Can I put an RSVP QR code on a printed Canva invitation?
- Yes. Download the QR code for your event, upload it to Canva as an image, and place it on the design at 2 cm (0.8 in) square or larger. Print the short link beneath it as a fallback for guests whose camera will not scan.
- Do guests need a Canva account or an app to reply?
- No. The link opens in any phone or desktop browser. Guests do not create an account, download an app, or sign in to anything.
- What happens if the event details change after I send the invitation?
- Edit the RSVP page and the same link and QR code show the new details. Guests who already replied keep their RSVP. You only need to update the Canva design if the changed detail is printed on it.
